Somerset, New Jersey & Austin, Texas, September 3, 2024:  SHI International, one of the world’s leading technology resellers and solutions providers, today announced the publication of its second Sustainability and Action Report. The document addresses SHI’s commitments and progress towards a more sustainable company and summarizes the collective achievements of business teams, functions and individuals across the multinational organization.
Thai Lee, President and CEO of SHI, commented on SHI’s ongoing commitment to sustainability: “At SHI, sustainability is a guiding principle that shapes our strategy, operations, and relationships. Throughout our history, SHI has helped our customers select, source, and manage technology to meet their business goals, and we aim to support their sustainability climate and broader sustainability objectives as well.”
The new report introduces SHI’s science-based climate targets for Scopes 1, 2, and 3 over the next five years, pending validation by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). These targets demonstrate SHI’s commitment to reducing GHG emissions and aiding customers in the USA and beyond in their decarbonization efforts.
  • By 2025, 100% electricity from renewable sources
  • By 2029, 70% of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) by spend, covering sold and re-sold products and services, have science-based climate targets
  • By 2030, 50% reduction in scope 1,2 and scope 3 (waste and business travel emissions)
The report also covers SHI’s commitments and performance on material sustainability topics, such as climate, environmental protection, DEI, safety and wellbeing of employees, community investment and business ethics. It also provides examples of concrete actions towards sustainability, such as doubling the capacity of solar PV panels at SHI’s Ridge Integration Center in New Jersey, investing in employee training and supporting local communities.
In 2023, SHI enhanced its sustainability management approach, disclosure, and stakeholder engagement processes. Key initiatives and achievements included:
  • Inaugural Sustainability and Action Report: SHI published its first external report, detailing an inventory of key sustainability policies, activities, and metrics. This process is now continuing with this second report.
  • Sustainability Committee: Under the leadership of Chief Financial Officer, James Prior, SHI formed a Sustainability Committee to drive greater focus, strategic direction, and accountability for sustainability across the organization.
  • Reporting integrity: SHI improved reporting, including an independent review of its GHG inventory and continuous system enhancement of data collection automation.
  • CDP performance: SHI’s CDP efforts were rewarded with an improved rating of C, in line with the average score for specialized professional services and North America. The company anticipates further improvement with the adoption of climate targets in 2024.
  • EcoVadis Silver score: SHI achieved a 20% increase in its overall EcoVadis score.
  • Customer engagement: SHI hosted its first Sustainability Summit, fostering dialogue and collaboration with customers and vendor partners.
Looking ahead, SHI will be submitting its science-based climate targets for validation by the SBTi, while continuing to drive ongoing decarbonization efforts.
