Energy Efficiency Projects
- Nexus site transitioned to a renewable electricity tariff; monthly energy consumption is closely monitored for anomalies.
- LED lighting fitted throughout U.K. facilities.
- Fresh air circulation system installed in place of HVAC in Nexus facility.
Warehouse Energy Optimization
- Nexus warehouse, constructed in 2022, features PIR lighting, efficient heating and cooling, and fresh air systems.
- Achieved a BREEAM rating of “Very Good” and EPC rating of A.
Lighting and HVAC Upgrades
- No active projects in 2025 (Milton Keynes HVAC project scheduled for 2025).
Employee Engagement
- Nexus maintains ISO 14001.
- Energy-related signage displayed throughout property.
- Quarterly environmental meeting and annual awareness training for employees.
Sustainable Transportation and Facilities
- Priority car parking provided for electric vehicles (EVs) and multi-occupancy vehicles.
- EV charging stations installed for employees and visitors at Nexus.
Optimizing Logistics
- Increased consolidation of customer orders and use of road freight to reduce carbon emissions.
- 50% reduction in deliveries and associated carbon footprint due to a knitting service put in place for a large client.
Sustainable Packaging
- Shift from plastic to paper infill for packaging.
- Cardboard boxes now contain a minimum of 30% recycle content.
- Transitioned from plastic to fibre-based banding.
Environmental Policy & ISO Certifications
- Policies continue to be reviewed and aligned with SHI International Corp.'s ESG standards.
- Successful ISO 14001 surveillance audits completed in March 2024 and scheduled for 2025.
Waste Optimization
- Paper cups removed from vending machines to promote reusable alternatives.
- Further reduction in plastic waste through increased use of paper-based packaging.
- Nexus waste reduced from 2,760.68 kg in 2023 to 2,001.82 kg in 2024.
Climate Targets and Governance
- SHI International Corp. achieved validation for science-based targets in 2025 at the group level. Targets are designed to enhance the efficiency of operations, mitigate risks with the supply chain, and support customers in making more sustainable procurement decisions and apply to SHI Corporation UK Limited.
- SHI International Corp. commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% by 2030 from a 2023 base year. SHI International Corp. also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from waste generated in operations and business travel 50% within the same timeframe.
- SHI International Corp. further commits that 70% of its suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services will have science-based targets by 2029. SHI International Corp. finally commits that 13% of its customers by revenue covering use of sold products will have science-based targets by 2029.
- In 2024, SHI expanded its central Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) team under the leadership of the company CFO. This team is responsible for developing and implementing SHI's group-wide sustainability strategy.
- Additionally, SHI updated the composition of its ESG Committee, which is now chaired by the CFO. The committee provides strategic direction, monitors sustainability performance, and ensures effective execution of ESG initiatives.
Declaration and Sign Off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard1 and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting2. Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard3. This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
